As some of you may know, as well as writing Mexico Retold and articles about my beloved Mexico, I am also writing a novel set in Chiapas. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a writer, but somehow life took me in other directions (academia, NGO sector) for a while. Eventually, in early 2012, I couldn’t resist the need to write anymore and I gave up my job to work full time as a writer. Freelance writing is brilliant, invigorating, sometimes difficult and stressful, but more than anything very rewarding. Mexico Retold has brought some really interesting opportunities and people my way and I love it. All the while in the background I have been working on my novel and I decided it would also be fun to use fiction writing to promote Mexico in a different way; through stories.
When I shared a picture of an old green and white VW beetle taxi on the Mexico Retold facebook page, the idea for a story came to me. It actually came to me early in the morning and woke me up. I was trying to write notes on my phone but in the end I pulled myself out of bed, turned on my computer and started writing. Now I am delighted to say that my short story, Life in Green and White, is available on amazon for digital download for just $1.50 US/ £1/ $20MXN and many other currencies, here.
If you don’t have a kindle, apparently you can also download the story to read on an ipad or a computer. In addition, if you would like to read the story but would struggle to spare the cash, please contact me as I would like the story to be available to anyone who would enjoy reading it.
If you do read it and have a moment to leave a review, I would be ever so grateful as reviews help to spread the word wider.
Life in Green and White is the first of a series of short stories about Mexico that will all be different, and I hope enjoyable, reflections on Mexico, so do keep an eye out for the next one!
